Actually, yes, you fucking douchebag. Rape to some people is worse than murder.
If someone said to me, “right, you’re either raped again, or I shoot you in the face”, I would choose the gun, because that would be over in a blink.
Being raped again wouldn’t.
There’s the actual act, yes. But it lasts longer than that. Rape lasts forever. It permeates everything you do. It takes something that should be, at the very least, fun, and turns it into a nightmare. Rape takes everything that you are and turns it into dirt.
And every time someone makes a rape joke, that all comes back to me quicker than a slamming door. Guys, that’s my life being blown to pieces in the space of one night, being thrown back into my face. And it hurts like fuck to think that people would find that funny.
So I want to remove myself from it. When I say “can you properly tag this shit so I can savior it, so I don’t have to read it”, I’m saying to you “please do me one favour: please don’t send me back to all this”. And when you say “bawwww no you’re impinging on my free speech censorship censorship fucking bitch”, you’re also saying “fuck you, I don’t give a shit about how your life was ruined, I just want my lulz”.

I don’t even want to stop you making rape jokes. I’m pretty sure I believe in free speech, so I just want to make it easier for me to avoid that shit, and NOT ACTUALLY impinge on your said free speech! It’s not even arguing about whether we’re post-rape and whether we as a society are in a “moral” position to make those jokes, I’m not arguing about whether rape jokes make rape “better” through humour (IMHO it doesn’t, it just makes most people feel worse, but hey, that’s not what this is about, also, just my opinion), it’s just about common fucking courtesy. You can make rape jokes ‘til the cows come home, can you just make it easy for me to remove myself from your audience when you do? I’m happy, you’re happy, we’re all happy!
Why the HELL is that a bad thing? Why does THAT make me a “feminazi” or a “humourless cunt” or whathaveyou? I’m offering the olive branch, here. I’m not gonna jump down your throat about rape jokes so long as I don’t have to hear/read them. Isn’t that a decent enough request? I don’t want pity or hugs or special treatment or anything, just courtesy.
